Fast compressed files in Mac OS x

When you want to back up files or send large files to your friends or co-workers, the compression software will be of great help to you. Compressed files save storage space and speed up the transfer of files over the Internet.

If you've installed Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther," you don't have to bother looking for compressed software, because the compression technology is already integrated. You can use this feature in the Finder:

1. Select a file, multiple files, or a folder

2. Pull down the "File" menu and choose "Make compressed file ' filename '"

Panther will add a ". zip" suffix to each file or folder, and when you compress multiple files or folders, it creates a compressed file called "Archive.zip." Zip is the most common compression format for Windows systems.
