Wireless MAC address filtering allows or denies wireless clients access to wireless networks through MAC addresses, effectively controlling access rights for wireless clients. Wireless MAC filtering enables wireless networks to achieve higher security. Each network device, whether wired or wireless, has a unique identifier called the MAC address (the media access control address). The MAC address of the NIC can be obtained by opening the command Line window, entering Ipconfig/all, and then appearing a lot of information, in which the physical address (physical address) is the Mac.

After we know the MAC address of the wireless network card, we can configure it in the wireless router in detail. Since our 11N wireless router and 11G wireless router are different in wireless MAC address filtering settings, these two situations are described below.

11N Wireless Router Wireless MAC address filtering

Because the wireless MAC address filtering configuration is simpler, we illustrate it with an example. If you want a host with a MAC address "00-21-27-b7-7e-15" To access this wireless network and a host that wants to prohibit MAC address "00-0a-eb-00-07-5f" from accessing the wireless network, no other host can access the wireless network, You can configure this by following these steps:

Step 1:

Use the router management address to log in to the router management interface, and then select the Wireless MAC address filter option in the Settings menu, and the following interface appears:

Step 2:

Set the filter rule to "Prohibit a MAC address outside of the effective rule in the list from accessing this wireless network".

Step 3:

Click the "Add New Entry" button, the MAC address is "00-21-27-b7-7e-15", the type is "allow", the status is "effective" entry. For ease of management, describe an item in which you can add a description. For example, the address is John Computer, you can fill in the description of "John".

Step 4:

Similarly, in the second Add new entry, add the MAC address "00-0a-eb-00-07-5f", which is described as "Dick" and an entry with a status of "invalid".

Step 5:

After the entry is added, enable the MAC address filtering function. In this case, the entry in the Wireless MAC address filter setting is as follows:

Step 6:

Wireless MAC address filtering rules have been added, we can go to the filter in the rules of the computer to check to see if we achieve our goal.

11G Wireless Router Wireless MAC address filtering

11G Wireless Router Wireless MAC address filtering, we also take the example to explain. Step 7:

The wireless MAC address filtering rule has been added and we can check it out on the computer in the filter rule to see if the filter entry is in effect and if it achieves the purpose we want.
