In Vista, Microsoft introduced an enhanced Desktop Search feature to help users find files quickly, and email has other things on the computer. With the release of Windows Search 4.0, new search performance is better by adding a series of necessary features for the IT industry.
Windows 7 Desktop Search consolidates the federated search functionality to search for things outside of the local computer. Now you can search for things on the web through your local computer. The technology is based on OpenSearch and RSS format. Because it is based on the standard is open, users can easily create their own personalized search tool. For example, you can search for Flickr content through the resource manager in your own computer.
At present, there are many personalized search tools can be downloaded:
Flickr Search Connector
YouTube Search Connector
Google News Search Connector
Google Blogs Search Connector
Twitter Search Connector
MSN Search
Deviant Art Search
It has to be admitted that the Federated search feature looks promising. More and more websites are now joining the OpenSearch support to attract Windows 7 users. This is not new to Microsoft, because OpenSearch is integrated early in IE 7 and SharePoint searches.
Although there are no official documents at the moment, it is believed that with the release of Windows 7 Beta, the Windows 7 Beta Developer tool will also be released.
