Fedora9 installation configuration records

I used live-cd for installation. I have to say that there are a lot of problems with Fedora 9, but it is still a very good system in general. I will not talk about the installation process much, I would like to share some of my system configuration problems and solutions with you. I hope you will give me some advice!

1. Nvidia graphics card driver problems, due to the well-known reasons, Xorg 1.5 and Nvidia drivers are not compatible, or just wait for the release of new drivers,

2. the startup time is too long, or you cannot enter the desktop for a long time, and the gnome daemon failure error window pops up. According to my practice, the host name is modified, however, no changes were made in/etc/hosts. Add or modify the changes to the/etc/hosts file as follows:
127.0.0.1 Host Name
For details about how to modify the hosts file, refer to: restart X on the hosts console. The logon window cannot be displayed in the console 7 for a long time. Press Ctrl + Alt + F9 or F10 to switch to the console 9 or 10, you can see that the login window, Fedora8 does not seem to have 9, 10 console.

3. font configuration-Take as an example:
Create a font directory and copy the font file to the Created directory.
# Mkdir-p the custom directory is generally created in the/usr/share/fonts directory.
# Cp-f font position target position
Go to the custom directory, create the fonts. scale file, and generate the font Directory Index.
# Cd/usr/share/fonts/custom
# Ttmkfdir-o fonts. scale create the fonts. scale File
# Mkfontdir generate a font Directory Index
# Fc-cache-fv update font cache Information
Finally, select the font you just installed in the appearance options.

4. Configure sudo
Echo 'username ALL = (ALL) all'>/etc/sudoers
The user name is your account name. Use 'All = (ALL) NOPASSWD: all' to replace the above part. Running sudo will not prompt the user to enter the password.

5. yum update acceleration: Refer to using axel to accelerate yum in Fedora 8.
The basic steps of Fedora 9 and Fedora 8 are the same, but note that the use of su-c is normal, but if sudo is used, the axel command cannot be found, solution: Modify axelget after svn. py file, search for "axel-a-n" and replace it with "/usr/local/bin/axel-a-n"
As for the new PackageKit introduced by Fedora 9, there is no obvious advantage at present and it is being adapted ......

6. Service optimization: refer to the Fedora service Introduction to stop unwanted services.

7. Add shutdown and restart permissions to common users:
Choose system> preferences> system> Authorizations. In the list on the left, find the items related to restart and shutdown, click the Grant button on the right, and add the user to the list.

8. corrected the font of the flash plug-in. Currently, the flash plug-in has been updated to 10. The effect is good. We recommend that you install it. However, in many cases, the text in flash cannot be seen or garbled, so you need to correct the font.
One method: edit/etc/fonts/conf. d/49-sansserif.conf, change the font, and replace "sans-serif" with "" or other custom fonts.
Method 2: delete the/etc/fonts/conf. d/49-sansserif.conf file directly.

The above are some of the problems I encountered, and a simple configuration of the system. In addition to the above descriptions, the others are basically similar to Fedora8, and there are many new features introduced by Fedora 9, there are also some changes in operation and usage habits, which may be the reason why many Fedora users find it difficult to use. Objectively speaking, Fedora 9 is still good!

PS: I still cannot use the ASUS 6 card reader, but the camera is automatically identified and installed.
