After learning about the difference and connection between Fedora and Ubuntu [see the http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2013-07/87245.htm], we compared the installation, software availability and software management of Fedora and Ubuntu, and found that Fedora is slightly inferior. Who is the final winner? Continue to read this article.
Fedora vs. Ubuntu: FOSS vs. Proprietary software
Perhaps the biggest difference between Ubuntu and Fedora is software licensing. Ubuntu runs any operation: provides a GUI to install appropriate drivers and adds proprietary applications/games to the software repository. However, the Fedora repository only accepts FOSS-based applications. Of course, you can also install a proprietary driver, but it is not as easy as Ubuntu.
Fedora depends on the straight waist of the game. Common Linux Games, from Frets of Fire to Sauerbraten, are clearly identified. Fedora software developers will not package and provide them. On the contrary, Ubuntu can provide things not provided by Fedora.
Ubuntu and Fedora vs. FSF
It is obvious that Ubuntu is very dangerous to execute tasks in the FSF. However, Fedora complies with FSF standards. Richard Stallman sent an email stating: first, people asked to clarify the licensing issue, apparently seeking FSF approval. Second, Stallman is not completely convinced that Fedora goes further than other branches recommended by FSF.
Fedora vs. Ubuntu: Availability comparison
Recently, I have run Arch (and Manjaro), Ubuntu, and OpenSUSE. Each branch provides unique and fascinating features. Sadly, I don't know where Fedora is.
If I want to find a FOSS-friendly GNU/Linux experience, I will recommend the preferred branch of FSF. As a replacement for Ubuntu, Manjaro or OpenSUSE is sufficient. If you want to be responsible for your desktop, Arch is a charming choice, and you can control your desktop experience with great control. But ora, to be honest, is hard to choose.
Fedora is suitable for those who hate MP3, DVDs, suitable drivers, and non-FOSS applications. Do not get me wrong. I think it is a healthy choice to get the FOSS authorization branch. It makes things pure and suitable for those who like the pure Linux experience.
So I will recommend Fedora instead of Ubuntu? Actually, NO. I will recommend other options mentioned above. I am not targeting Fedora, it is good, but there is no accurate positioning at the moment.
