Fenghe cooperates with St, Ti, NEC and other companies, and the first Android mobile phone platform is released

Wind River Systems announced their cooperation with STMicroelectronics and NEC Electronics to showcase the first startup of the Open Handset Alliance Android mobile platform. The cooperation with ST is based on the company's nomadik series multimedia application processor, while the cooperation with NEC is based on the company's medity m2 processor, the Android mobile phone platform and the NEC Electronics platformovia software platform are displayed in the same architecture.

As a partner of the Open Mobile Alliance's Linux commercialization, Wind River has gained extensive experience in porting the Android platform to a new architecture, therefore, it can help a number of companies to port, integrate, test and optimize their android platforms. In addition to NEC Electronics and STMicroelectronics, Wind River also collaborated with Ti to demonstrate the Android mobile phone platform using the Ti OMAP processor.

The nomadik application processor of St is designed for a variety of mobile devices. It uses a multi-core processor architecture to provide unparalleled music, video, and image quality with ultra-low power consumption, creates a longer battery endurance. The simplified software development process significantly shortens product time-to-market, including smart phones, multimedia mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), network devices, and automotive entertainment systems. This product can be applied to multimedia devices in multiple markets and in the future.

NEC's platformovia is a Linux-based vertically integrated software stack designed to accelerate the time-to-market release of 3G mobile phones. It is also suitable for digital video and automotive entertainment markets. The platform provides a common software API interface and pre-integrated partner components. Platformovia is developed jointly by NEC Electronics and other top software vendors and system integrators. It adopts an open architecture and supports advanced technologies such as multi-processing. In addition, companies adopting platformovia can develop exclusive system LSI for product features.

Through cooperation with Wind River, component manufacturers of the Open Mobile Alliance and other OEMs can successfully port android to their hardware platforms, optimize individual requirements (including tuning the Linux core) to maximize product benefits.
