Fiber Technology to be broken through: potential not yet developed
A few days ago, British media reported that the country's optical fiber is about to reach the limit of design capacity. However, Ma Jihua, a senior telecom analyst, said that from a scientific point of view, almost every limit statement would not be true. Xiang Ligang, ceo of feixiang network and vice chairman of Beijing 3G Industry Alliance, believes that the potential of optical fiber is not yet fully developed. Even if an optical fiber reaches its peak, it can be re-built, but the cost will be a big problem.
"Each media has a maximum transmission limit, which is undeniable. But simply put, increasing network speed and occupying a large amount of power from the internet lead to the limit of optical fiber, which is not scientific ." XU Zhen, a researcher at the Information Engineering Research Institute of the Chinese Emy of Sciences, said. If the second optical fiber is laid, the cost may multiply, but the overall profit will not increase, which puts pressure on operators.
At the same time, the Internet consumes a lot of power, but now many applications or instruments are becoming more and more energy-saving. For example, before the advent of a laptop, a large number of desktops were dominant. With the development of technology, laptops can be taken around at any time and can be used for about 10 hours. This is a breakthrough. There is also the emergence of smart phones, its functions can be comparable to computers, but the power consumption is greatly reduced, the energy consumption is also gradually decreasing.
Currently, no new technology is available because the cost of fiber laying is still relatively low. When the cost is too high due to the use of the physical method to add optical fiber, it will promote the development of other technologies. If fixed resources are saturated, mobile resources can also be diverted. For example, satellite communication and direct interconnection may replace optical fiber transmission.
Xiang Ligang said that although optical fiber is currently the best medium, quantum communication or other media may replace optical fiber in the future. Although these technologies are still under research, with the advancement of science and technology, technical difficulties will always be broken through.
