File globbing (replace the file name)

Source: Internet
Author: User

when running UNIX and MS-DOS commands, shell metacharacters have been introduced for extension of file names. The asterisk (*) is used to match all characters in the file name. Question mark (?) Matching a single character in the file, while square brackets ([several characters]) match one of any character in the brackets. The process of extending these shell metacharacters into file names is called globbing.

but file globbing is not a strict regular expression, although the structure is similar in most cases.
