Five use cases for Cassandra

Although the size of the community is a less precise issue, at least 3,000 companies are using Cassandra in the production process. Over the past few months, we have learned more about applications that use Cassandra, and have come up with an attractive pattern in which more than 80% use cases can be grouped into these five types of applications.

Product Catalog/playlist: Whether you're browsing articles on AOL, or ordering Spotify playlists for morning runs, you are using applications built on Cassandra. Because of its high availability and scalable capabilities in multiple data centers, Cassandra makes it possible to apply this use case well.

Recommended/Personalized engine: If there is no recommended/personalized engine system, how will we buy tickets, or how do we find other interesting articles. Eventbrite uses Cassandra instead of MySQL to improve their customer experience by letting users know about events that occur around them, and that users are interested in participating. Due to Cassandra's good reading and writing ability and its ease of deployment, Eventbrite decided to use Cassandra. Outbrain, a company you often use but unfamiliar with, is also using Cassandra to enhance their content discovery platform by recommending what you might be interested in to help businesses increase their revenue streams. One of my favorite Cassandra quotes comes from Outbrain after Hurricane Sandy. In Hurricane Sandy, we almost completely lost all data center data. The failover of the application allows us to not complete a few minutes of request service for a particular area, but the data we have on the Cassandra is unaffected.
