Amazon Appstore: poor?

When Amazon Appstore was released, almost everyone except Google was very happy. Obviously, users and developers are not satisfied with the poor experience and profitability of the Android Market. Amazon Appstore gives users an extra choice and promises developers a new profit platform.

Recently, Shifty Jelly, a developer developing applications in Amazon Appstore, suddenly announced that he had abandoned Amazon Appstore and talked about the poor performance of Amazon Appstore on his blog. What exactly is this?

One of the most prominent features of Amazon Appstore is "free apps per day ". It is this "free daily application" that leads to developers' dissatisfaction.

What Amazon does not mean is that it returns to the list of "free apps per day. Amazon claims that even "free apps per day" will pay developers 20%, apparently attracting developers including Shifty Jelly. As a result, after registration, Shifty Jelly received a letter from Amazon stating that "free apps per day" earned by developers is 0.

Shifty Jelly thinks this is ridiculous because their applications do not have advertisements and developers cannot make profits if they are given away for free. They write to Amazon to respect the original developer agreement.

Amazon replied that "free apps per day" is in the most valuable and visible position in the store and is beneficial to developers. However, Amazon cannot make profits from the store and therefore won't pay developers, however, their applications will be recommended on the Appstore homepage in the next 14 days.

Here, Amazon deliberately ignores that although Amazon has not obtained visible benefits from the "free daily application", it is an important method to attract users and has potential benefits. Whether the developer gains or not depends on whether the "daily free application" can increase the subsequent income.

The tragedy is that "free apps per day" does not help developers increase their incomes.

Now, you can imagine how angry developers are.

As shown in the figure above, the "daily free application" has greatly promoted sales. Downloads increased from 20 in June 26 to June 27 in 101491. Shift Jelly should earn $54,805.14 in revenue calculations. If you follow the original protocol, the developer can get $10961.028.

Of course, they don't get a penny.

In fact, Amazon cannot be found here. Because the developer agreed to the conditions later, and the benefits here do not represent the actual benefits.

The problem is that "free apps per day" will not work well in the future. Since a large number of downloads on the 27 th, the app downloads have resumed their pre-sales appearances. Moreover, Amazon subsequently reduced the price for the app, reducing the cost of a small amount of revenue.

In addition, Shifty Jelly lists other Amazon Appstore problems.

  • Two-week review
  • Developers can't do anything about the free pricing of applications.
  • Rewrite the developer's description of the application and even fabricate it randomly.
  • No error reports
  • Multi-APK upload is still not supported
  • Payment time later than Google
  • Only in the United States
  • Lack of real-time sales information compared to Google
  • Developers cannot remove their own applications. They must obtain Amazon's consent by email.

Shift Jelly finally decided to leave the Amazon Appstore. Apart from the above complaints, there is no possibility of failure.

Although Shift Jelly is an example, it does reflect many problems of Amazon Appstore. Whether "daily free application" is a good promotion method is clearly worth exploring.

It is widely rumored that Amazon will release its own tablet. If the situation is true, Appstore will be an important step for Amazon to build an ecosystem. How can I win developers? Is Amazon really ready?
