Traditional telecommunication networks are designed for voice transmission. They use TDM and circuit exchange technology. They are not suitable for IP data transmission and video transmission.   Man technology using POS + SDH/WDM

Optical Fiber Communication becomes the first choice for the physical layer with its huge bandwidth. As we all know, the existing backbone transmission networks of China Telecom mainly adopt SDH/SONET technology. SDH/SONET technology is very suitable for voice services that use TDM technology for transmission. It has good network protection and self-healing functions. On the other hand, the current IP network is also very dependent on the telecom network, for example, ISPs outside the telecom operator all rely on leased telecommunications lines.

Therefore, the first solution of the broadband MAN is naturally the POS technology + SDH/WDM Technology. This scheme is characterized by making full use of existing SDH and WDM devices in the existing man to protect existing network investment.

  Man technology using EOS + SDH/WDM platforms

As mentioned above, SDH technology is used in the telecom backbone network, but Ethernet technology is used in the LAN. Ethernet and SDH are two mainstream technologies in the current communication network. The main advantages of the man technology using the EOS technology + SDH/WDM platform include: End-to-End remote performance monitoring, remote fault indication, traffic control, low price and ease of use, low latency and latency jitter can well support real-time services. It can provide 1 + 1 protection for Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet services and support both local and remote traffic control, make full use of the features of the existing transmission network to the maximum extent.

  New broadband MAN technology using MSR

MSR is a new type of man networking and application mode. MSR is a two-way symmetric binary fiber ring. The main optical transmission mechanism is Gbit/s Ethernet and 10 Gbit/s Ethernet low-cost wide-area interface sub-layer (WIS) or SDH/SONET. MSR supports Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, digital video broadcast, ATM, POS, X.85, X.86, and other business branches. It also supports packet forwarding like a router. When adding services to branches on the MSR node, it is equivalent to a loop composed of multiple service plug-and-play devices, supporting business point-to-point, multicast, and broadcast applications. MSR integrates transmission and data exchange to reduce the complexity of transmission devices and data exchange devices.

MSR consists of a pair of Bidirectional symmetric and reverse rotating optical fiber rings. MSR consists of at least two nodes, each node can have one or more independent branches (such as Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, DVB, POS, or ATM ports), or send and receive Layer 3 (IPv4/IPv6) forward data packets (similar to routers), control signaling groups, and network management groups.

MSR supports multicast, broadcast, and packet forwarding for these branch businesses. A converged pipe can be any of STM-4/OC-12, STM-16/OC-48, STM-64/OC-192, Gigabit Ethernet and 10G Ethernet. At the same time, a node can be inserted or deleted in the MSR ring, and other nodes and services can run normally without group loss or service loss. In addition, each node of the MSR can support one or more independent branch businesses.

MSR is a new generation of Multi-Service optical platform. It simplifies switching and transmission while retaining relevant functions, and integrates them to make them one. MSR supports Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, DVB, ATM, POS, X.85, and X.86 branch services. It also works in a Dynamic Data grouping ring and forwards packets on the ring like a router.

MSR is a carrier-class IP network. Services on the ring are transparent. Data, videos, and TDM can be integrated into one chip to achieve triple play. MSR and services are elastic, MSR can be used for the access part of the network or for the backbone part of the network, such as MAN. In addition, the access ring and the backbone ring can be nested with each other.

In MSR applications, MSR rings support single-fiber rings, two-fiber rings, and four-fiber rings. In addition, MSR can use ring and chain topologies.
