ArcGIS line-to-Plane Method

ArcGIS rarely draws polygon directly when performing a wide range of vectoring. This is because the shape file does not have a topology and is inconvenient to process multiple adjacent polygon. Therefore, generally, the GEO chart is first painted with a line, and then the line is converted into a polygon. In ArcGIS, there are three ways to convert a line into a polygon:

1. feature to Polygon

This method, as its name implies, is to convert elements into polygon. In arctoolbox, choose data management tools> features> feature to Polygon. In the displayed dialog box, set the line element file and the location and file name of the generated polygon storage, click OK. After a polygon is generated, it is automatically added to the TOC window of ArcGIS.

2. Polygon feature class from lines

First of all, this method requires the support of ArcGIS Geodatabase, that is, your shape data needs to be placed in ArcGIS Geodatabase. Either personal Geodatabase or file Geodatabase can be used. In the feature dataset, right-click the blank area and choose new> polygon feature class from lines ..., In the displayed window, enter the name of the surface element to be generated and select the line element to be generated, next, we are pleasantly surprised to find the "select a point feature class to establish attributes for the polygon feature" sentence, which means that here we can specify a dot element file, to create the attributes of a surface element. Why is it a surprise? After vectoring, a large part of the work is to assign attributes (for example, the land use type) to the images. With this function, when we use the line-hooks to plot the spots, you can create a new vertex file, draw a vertex in each image spot, and assign the attribute of the spot to it. In this way, you can use this function to directly assign the vertex attribute to the polygon when converting the dot into a polygon, it saves us a lot of time.

3. construct features

In addition to the support of Geodatabase in method 2, this method also needs the support of ArcGIS topology module (ArcGIS topology Module). The method is as follows: create a surface element file to store the generated polygon. Add line elements and surface elements to the TOC window of ArcGIS at the same time, Click start editing on the editor toolbar to start editing, and click map topology on the topology toolbar, in the displayed dialog box, select the line element of the polygon and close the dialog box. On the editor toolbar, set target (editing target) as the newly created surface file, and then select the corresponding line elements (Note: The selected line elements must form a closed polygon ), the construct features button on the topology toolbar becomes available. Click this button to bring up the construct features dialog box. Set the tolerance and other options and click OK to generate a polygon.

Compared with 3, the first method is the worst, because it can only convert all the lines into a polygon at a time and cannot assign attributes at the same time. The second method is the best, I personally think, in addition to converting a line into a surface, you can also assign the point attribute to the surface image. The third method is also good and flexible. You can create a polygon if you want to create a polygon, after creating a polygon, you can assign attributes to it at the same time.
