Summary: There is a complete map of China that sometimes requires mapping only for a particular area, so how can I display only the feature content of that range without cropping?
Steps:
1. Open ArcMap and load the complete map of China;
2. The area to be displayed is made into a polygon layer named Cliplyr, and added in;
3. Define "Data frame properties";
- The range (Extent) consists of three options: Automatic: Default, Fixed scale: Displays only a map at a specified bar, cannot zoom in and out of the map, Fixed Extend: Displays only the current map extent, not zoom in, zoom out, roam.
- Extent used by full Extent Command: The range that is displayed when you click the whole map button.
- The clip option (cropping option) includes two options, no clipping is not clipped; clip to Shape is used to set the display of a particular area-wide feature, the out-of-zone feature is hidden, and the "Exclude lyers" button to set which layers are not cropped, Border is used to set the display style for the clipping area boundaries, and the clip grid and Gradient check box sets whether the graticule that is added in the layout state will be cropped.
4. In "Clip option", set: Select "Crop to Shape", then click "Specify shape (Specify shape)" button, in the popup "Data frame clipping" (Clipping) dialog box, select the contour of the feature (Outline of Feature), and select the clip layer "Cliplyr", click OK; (Note that the clipping is not really cropping, just the way it is displayed)
