Autodesk discloses the details of the resin, mechanical design, circuit drawings of its 3D printer ember under the Creative Commons-Attribution-Share license, which exposes the firmware under the GNU GPL license. The printer is running a Linux-based operating system. One reason the 3D printer industry is keen on open source is that it has grown up in open source mode, and many successful companies use open source designs to sell similar printers. The Ember 3D printer has a package price of about $6000, including a printer, two resin trays, two construction heads, two liters of transparent resins and a finishing tool.
