You can use the following shortcut keys in the Address bar:

First enter the search engine URL, then press Tab when prompted, enter a search term, and then press ENTER. |
Search using the search engine associated with the URL. |
Enter the URL and press-enter. |
Open the URL in the new Background tab. |
