Cisco Catalyst 3550 series smart Ethernet switches are a new type of enterprise-class stackable multi-layer switch that provides high availability, high scalability, and high security, and improves the management capabilities of network operations. With a series of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet configurations, the Catalyst 3550 series can serve as a powerful access layer switch for medium-sized enterprise cabling rooms and backbone network switch for medium-sized networks. With this service, you can deploy smart services in the network, such as advanced service quality (QoS), speed limit, Cisco Security Access Control List, multicast management, and high-performance IP address routing. The Cisco Cluster Management Kit (CMS) software is embedded in the Catalyst 3550 so that you can configure and correct multiple Catalyst switches simultaneously using a standard Web browser. The Cisco CMS software provides a new Configuration Wizard that greatly simplifies the implementation of integrated applications and services in the network.

Cisco Catalyst 3550 provides advanced layer-3 refined QoS features to ensure classification and sorting of network traffic and to avoid congestion in the best way. Before a packet enters the shared buffer, the Catalyst 3550 smart Ethernet switch can classify, reclassify, and process the incoming packet according to the policy (determine whether the packet flow is from the intended user or not, and take action on the package. Packet Classification allows network devices to differentiate traffic and implement policies based on Layer 2 and Layer 3 QoS fields.

The Cisco Cluster Management Suite (CMS) is a Web-based software embedded in Catalyst 3550, 2950, 3500XL, 2900XL, 2900LREXL, and 1900 switches. With the help of Cisco switch cluster technology, users can access Cisco CMS through any standard Web browser, regardless of the geographical distribution, can manage 16 switches at a time, if needed, you can also select an IP address. After a Catalyst 3550 switch is added, the Cisco CMS software can now expand beyond the routing edge to manage Cisco clusters more flexibly.
