Cisco Switch Change Password

Lab Environment:

The company has a Cisco switch that forgets the login password and cannot enter into privileged mode.

Implementation features:

To modify the login password in privileged mode

1, desktop----start----All Programs----attachments----hyperterminal----files----New Connection---Custom

The name test----OK.

2. The COM1 (depending on the actual situation) used in the connection is----determined.

3, Rate: 9600----data bits: 8----parity: none (default)----stop bit: 1 (default)----traffic control: no----OK.

4. Press and hold the switch front panel's mode key----turn on the switch power----press and hold for 5 seconds to release the mode key---then continue holding the mode key for 5 seconds and then release the----HyperTerminal to see the prompt.

5, HyperTerminal you can see the following prompt is to enter the maintenance mode.

6, enter Flash_init press ENTER to continue.

7, enter Load_helper press ENTER to continue. If you are prompted to unknown cmd:load_helper after you enter the command, you can proceed to the next step without having to ignore the command.

8. Enter DIR Flash: see if the Config.text file exists.

Callout: There is a colon behind flash

9. Enter Rename flash:config.text flash:config.old command to modify Config.text text name.

10, through Dir_flash: Check the success of the modification----Enter the boot boot system.

Callout: If you enter the Reset command, the switch will be reset to factory settings.

11. Entering the switch will prompt "Do you want to enter the initial configuration dialog?" "Please enter no press ENTER to continue."

12, the user mode input enable enter the privileged mode does not prompt for the password----changes the Config.old text name to the original Config.text name.

13. Enter the copy flash:config.text system:running-config command to load the original configuration into memory.

14, enter the global mode to modify the special mode login password---Restart the switch.

15, login test.
