I believe that a lot of technicians are looking for a way out for a Frame relay network that was built a few years ago with Eicon WAN Interface cards:
Eicon Multi-Protocol Smart Wan ISA interface card C21 computer years of disrepair, a new machine with an Isa slot is not available to replace it; Eicon WAN Interface card-connected frame relay generally only one computer, can not achieve the purpose of LAN interconnection ...
All above, this paper gives a "Cisco router to connect Frame trunk road, Eicon WAN Interface card for backup" case.
1, first, get the technical parameters of the frame trunk road:
For configuring routers, the required parameters are
1 Frame Relay Local DLCI (data link Connection identifier)---each Frame Relay virtual circuit identifies itself with DLCI), which can be run from "Eicon Administrator/configurator" Software: See figure "Frame Relay DLCI".
Figure I, Frame Relay DLCI
2 A-terminal IP network address, which can be obtained from the IP settings of the eicom card.
2, upgrade the Cisco 1603 Router iOS:
Figure II, use Cisco router instead of Eicon WAN Interface card to connect frame trunk road
The network transformation scheme in the diagram "using Cisco router instead of Eicon WAN Interface card to connect frame trunk Road" is visible, need the router to connect the network of a end to B end. In order not to affect the network structure and configuration of B-terminal and its application, the router of a-terminal should adopt Nat method.
The router used in this case is a long unused Cisco 1603 with iOS version number "11.1" (Image File "C1600-y-l.111-12.aa") While Cisco's iOS supports NAT above version 11.2, it is necessary to use TFTP to upgrade Cisco 1603 iOS to "11.2 P7" (Image File "1600-oy-l.112-26.p7.bin"). (Upgrade section slightly)
