CoreOS and Mirantis to drive the integration of OpenStack and Linux containers

Mirantis announced yesterday that it will work with CoreOS to integrate CoreOS's tectonic specifically for Linux containers in the future Mirantis launch of OpenStack.

Kamesh Pemmaraju, partner marketing director at Mirantis, says the recent effort has been made to integrate OpenStack with the container management system kubernetes, and Kubernetes has become part of the tectonic.

He says the OpenStack community has limited knowledge of container technology, and Google has done a lot of work in the OpenStack community to popularize container technology after joining the OpenStack Foundation.

With the integration of OpenStack and tectonic, operators can use OpenStack to manage Linux containers whether they are deployed in bare metal, virtual machines, or PAAs environments.

This also makes OpenStack the most flexible and comprehensive it platform on the market. It enables the configuration and management of all IT resources through a single API call.

To tell you the truth, I'm afraid there's not yet. Enterprises use Linux containers in production environments, but have already used them in development and test environments. But it's mostly for virtual machines, because virtual machines are the easiest way to configure a container for a business.

There are still some problems with networking between containers in multiple servers, so Mirantis believes that Linux containers that are initially deployed to production should be non-critical business applications for internal use by the enterprise, and that Linux containers can be used more broadly later.

There is still a lack of knowledge of the container technology for the operations team, so for the time being I'm afraid to rely on developers to dominate, but as the operations team's knowledge of container technology increases and the number of virtual machines in the enterprise skyrocket, the use of container technology as a substitute for virtual machines on bare metal is only a matter of timing.
