Ibm®database Tools for Microsoft®visual Studio 2005 introduces a new set of web-service-oriented features that expose the latest db2®purexml™ features. The new version could greatly increase the productivity of developers. The new IBM Database add-ins for Visual Studio 2005 provides some new features that simplify the use of purexml. These features include creating Web services from annotated XML schemas, XSR comparisons, and XSR XSLT support. This article describes IBM XML tools for DB2 Version 9.5 and its usage.

DB2 V9.1 adds new features for managing, storing, and querying XML data. These include:
XML data types so that DB2 can store XML documents in native hierarchical format
Supports industry-standard XML query languages, including new SQL XML extensions (also known as Sql/xml)
Validates XML data based on user-supplied schemas, enabling application developers and database administrators to ensure that data integrity constraints DB2 store XML data
These XML features are part of the new version of the IBM Database add-ins V9.5. Support for annotated XML schemas, XML Schema Repository (XSR) Compare, and XSLT Support these Web services belongs to V9.5. These improvements enhance the availability of XML features and help developers increase productivity.
annotation XML Schema create Web service support
The new version adds functionality that uses Web services as an XML Schema source. The XML schema can be inferred from the WSDL results of the Web service. The new version adds an option that defines the input of the Web service as an XML schema source, as shown in Figure 2. You can use only the registered XML schema or a document from a file as input in the previous release. To use Web input as an XML schema source, you can do this by doing the following:
Right-click the XML Schema Repository in Server Explorer and select Add annotated XML Schema, as shown in Figure 1:

The Open dialog box includes three options, as shown in Figure 2. Select Use document from a Web service to create a new annotated XML schema.
