I checked the various versions of DB2. It is said that DB2 10 has come out and I don't know what the situation is, but it will definitely improve some functions, this article is my summary of the latest DB2 9.7 database version planning:
DB2 Express-C
Limited to support up to 2 CPU cores and 4 GB memory, of course, this version of the DB2 installation package can be used for development and testing for free or small enterprises for production needs, however, this version cannot obtain technical support from the original manufacturer, and the installation platform of this version only supports 32-bit and 64-bit Systems Based on the X8 architecture, such as linux, windows, solaris, and Mac OS.
DB2 Express Edition
The database installation package of the paid version is extended based on the functions of DB Express-C. You can upgrade it by purchasing the related license. The installation software supports four CPU cores and 8 GB memory, this version can get technical support from the original manufacturer and provide additional features such as HADR.
DB2 Workgroup Server Edition
This version has no restrictions on CPU and memory, and basically supports various OS versions. On the basis of DB2 Express Edititon, It also adds features such as db2 pureScale that are suitable for small and medium enterprises, and can be further expanded for future needs
DB2 Enterprise Server
This version includes all functions of DB2 Express Edition and DB2 Workgroup Server Edition. It is suitable for large data warehouses or online transaction processing, and provides DPF functions, which can be highly scalable.
DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition
This version provides all the functions of DB2 Enterprise Server, which basically meets all the requirements of data services for large and medium-sized enterprises. Based on this version, it contains a large number of new features and rich management tools, for example, Q replication can provide two-way synchronization between heterogeneous databases and DB2 data on various platforms.
The above is the DB2 server software version provided by DB2 9.7 and later versions. We can see that the above versions are basically upgraded and extended based on the previous versions, and are fully compatible with the upstream and downstream versions, of course, the cost is also getting higher. It seems that all functional components and features of the DB2 database are charged. Therefore, an enterprise can select a specific version based on the features required by its own applications, in this way, you can properly save costs for the enterprise. In fact, compared with Oracle, we find that ORACLE is so heavy that a software package includes almost all functional requirements, that is, software packages such as DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition can be downloaded and used for free. Of course, they are not commercially available and are very user-friendly. No wonder database technicians will favor ORACLE.
