Today, we finally released the long-awaited Linux PC product, including two desktops and a notebook, all pre-installed with the Ubuntu 7.04 operating system. They are desktop PC "PCXPS 0000n", "Dimension E520n", and notebook "thinke1505n ".

Obviously, Dell's Linux PCs end with n for easy identification.

Dimension E520n and XPS platinum N are both based on Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 processor, 1 GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE TurboCache 256MB graphics card, but the LCD display is 17-inch and 19-inch, respectively, starting at $599 and $849.

The new Intel Pentium Dual Core T2080 Dual-Core processor is used in the instance, with a memory capacity of 512 MB, an integrated graphics card GMA 950, and a 15.4-inch TrueLife wxga LCD, starting at $599.

Dell provides sophisticated and stable driver support for the hardware configuration of each system, and the hardware configuration has been thoroughly tested and certified by the Ubuntu sponsor Canonical. As for the hardware not available with this release, Dell will work with equipment vendors to improve the maturity and stability related to the Linux driver and provide support in the future.

However. Dell has admitted that computers preinstalled with Linux operating systems cannot run in many popular video file formats and do not support low-end printers. This will cause an obstacle for Dell to sell Linux computers.

Dell's desktops and laptops will use the Ubuntu Linux operating system and only support components that have been adjusted and calibrated to run under the Ubuntu Linux operating system.

John hull, manager of the Dell Linux operating system technology department, said on the company's blog Direct2Dell: "this time. We do not provide any multimedia digital signal decoder that supports private ownership of audio and video, nor will the multimedia digital signal decoder be released together with the Ubuntu Linux7.04 operating system. Currently, unsupported file formats include MPEG 1/2/3/4, WMA, WMV, DVD, and QuickTime. We are considering the possibility of decoding in the future ."

Hull also recommends Linux users to purchase a Dell printer, which includes a PostScript Language engine that can work with the Ubuntu Linux operating system. Dell's decision to pre-install the Linux operating system on desktops and laptops comes from the suggestions provided by users on the Idea storm website.
