DELL R720 Server installs Windows Server R2 operating system graphics

Description: Some of the images in this article are Web-based, so it is not necessarily the Dell R720 Server installation interface, but the interface content is guaranteed to be close to the Dell R720 installation Interface

First, prepare items before installation

DELL R720 servers and their associated hardware

DELL Systems Management Tools and documentation discs

Windows Server R2 Genuine installation disk

Second, configure the server raid
    1. Post interface Follow the onscreen prompts, press Ctrl+r to enter the RAID configuration interface, as shown in 2-1:

Figure 2-1 Post Interface

2. Wait a little while, the system automatically enters the Vdisk manager (Virtual Disk Management), ready to start configuring Raid,2-2 as shown:

Note: The interface can be toggled by pressing CTRL + N and ctrl+p.

Figure 2-2 Virtual Disk Manager interface

3. At this point the virtual disk is empty, press the up and down keys to keep the cursor on the line of the array card model (perc H310 Mini in the figure), press the F2 pop-up menu, select Create New VD, and 2-3 as shown:

Figure 2-3 Creating a Virtual Disk menu item

4. At the RAID level option, the supported RAID levels will appear when you press ENTER, and the RAID card can support a raid0/1/5/10/50 level, depending on the number of drives, the options shown here may be different. Choose a different level and the options will vary. Here we select RAID1, press ENTER to confirm. 2-4 is shown below:

Figure 2-4 RAID level menu

5. After confirming the raid level, press the DOWN ARROW key, move the cursor to the physical disks list, move up or down to the hard drive location you want to select, press SPACEBAR to select the hard drive in the list, and when the number of hard drives selected meets the requirements of the raid level set in the previous step, Basic The default capacity information for this raid can be displayed in the settings VD size. There is an X mark for the selected hard drive.

After selecting the hard drive and pressing the TAB key, you can move the cursor to the VD size column, the VD size can be set manually, that is, you can not configure all the capacity in a virtual disk. If the virtual disk does not use all of the capacity of the RAID array we have configured, the remaining space can be configured as a different virtual disk, but the next vdisk must be configured to return VD Mgmt creation. VD name is set as needed, or it can be empty. 2-5 is shown below:

Note: The minimum number of drives required for each RAID level, raid0=1 raid1=2 raid5=3 raid10=4 raid50=6

Figure 2-5 Configuring raid

6. For advanced Settings, if there is no special requirement, no change is recommended.

7. After the above configuration confirmation is completed, press the TAB key, move the cursor to OK, press ENTER, the following prompt appears, if it is a new array, it is recommended to initialize the operation, if the purpose of the configuration array is to restore the previous data, do not initialize. Press ENTER to confirm to continue.

Figure 2-6 Configuration Confirmation Interface

8. When the configuration is complete, it will be returned to the Virtual Disk Manager page, as shown in 2-7:

Figure 2-7 The Virtual Disk Manager interface after configuration is complete

9. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move the cursor to the newly created virtual disk, press F2 pop-up menu, you can initialize the virtual disk (initialization), the consistency check (consistency check) that was just configured successfully, delete, View properties and more. Here we perform the initialization operation. 2-8 is shown below:

Figure 2-8 Initializing the virtual disk

10. After selecting the initialization action, a confirmation prompt pops up, and if you confirm the initialization operation, press ENTER at OK to continue, as shown in 2-9:

Figure 2-9 Confirm Initialization

11. Wait for the disk to initialize and complete the configuration of the virtual disk when it is complete.

Third, configure Server hot standby

There are two modes of configuring Hot Spare, one is global, which means that the hot spare drive can be used as a hot spare for all arrays on this channel, and the other is a standalone hot spare, which configures the hard disk for all the virtual disks in a given disk group. This means that even if the hard disk is dropped, the hot spare does not automatically rebuild the data.

1. Configure Global Hot Spares

Let's say we've done 3-1 raid for the hard drive.

Figure 3-1 The raid that has been completed

1) Press CTRL + N to switch to the PD MGNT interface, you can see the status of the hard disk, 3-2 shows:

Figure 3-2 HDD Status

2) You can see that the configured raid has a hard drive status of online, and the non-configured hard drive status is ready, move the cursor to the physical disk that you want to configure as a hot spare (the hard drive must be ready), press the F2 pop-up menu, and select Make Global HS.

Figure 3-3 Selecting the hot spare

3) After confirming the selection, the state of the hard disk you just selected becomes Hotspare, the hot spare configuration is complete, and the VD Mgnt is returned, you can see that two RAID hot spares are the same hard disk. The Global hot standby configuration is complete.

Figure 3-4 Global Hot Spare configuration complete

2. Configure Standalone Hot Spares

1) Suppose we have done two RAID arrays, RAID1 and RAID10. We want to set up the spare hard drive id=06 as a hot spare for RAID10 array exclusive. In this way, when a hard disk failure occurs in the RAID10 array, the hot spare drive automatically rebuilds the data and joins the RAID10 array. 3-5 is shown below:

Figure 3-5 RAID configuration diagram

2) Press the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to highlight the RAID10 group (spanned Disk group:0), press F2, select Mange Ded in the pop-up menu. Hs. 3-6 is shown below:

Figure 3-6 Selecting a standalone hard drive

3) in the pop-up menu, select the hard disk you want to use as the hot spare, press SPACEBAR to select, 3-7:

Figure 3-7 Selecting a standalone hot spare

4) Confirm Click OK, return to VD Mgnt interface, you can see RAID10 's independent hot spare set up, 3-8 shows:

Iv. booting with the system boot disk
    1. Place the randomly distributed systems Management Tools and documentation discs into the server CD drive, set the server as the CD-ROM boot, and then go in to the boot disc, as shown in 4-1:.

Figure 4-1 booting the disc interface

2. Wait for the boot disk to detect the server hardware, 5 minutes or so, please be patient, 4-2 is as follows:

Figure 4-2 Waiting for detection hardware

3. Choose a language, this does not need to introduce the bar ....

Figure 4-3 Choosing a language

4. Accept the agreement, do not accept that you cannot proceed to the next step, choose Accept.

5. The installation screen appears, click "Server operating System Installation"

Figure 4-4 Server operating system installation

6. After clicking on the configuration, the left sidebar of the screen shows 4-5, depending on the situation, not necessarily seven items.

Figure 4-5 Left Sidebar

7. First step: Please set the time zone to: Beijing, Hong Kong, Chongqing, Urumqi

8. Step Two: Select the operating system you want to install, and note the prompts on the lower side of the screen.

9. Step three: Confirm the RAID configuration and choose to keep the system RAID configuration.

10. The next few steps may not appear, if not appear, save the configuration, when the optical drive pops up, the ScreenTip put into the system disk when put into the system disk, if it appears in accordance with the system prompt configuration, generally keep the default configuration. At this point, the system boot ends, then the server operating system installation can be.
