Dell signs contract with Novell to install SuSE Linux on the server

Dell announced at the LinuxWorld Conference in Frankfurt that it will Install Novell's SuSE Linux operating system on its Dell poweredge server as part of its global agreement with Novell.

At a press conference on the Agreement, Judy chavis, Dell's Global Alliance marketing director, said Novell's SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 would be used on servers like poweredge 1850, 2800, and 2850, the annual subscription price for a single CPU server is 150 euros ($192), while that for Dual CPU servers is 230 euros per year.

After Dell signs this agreement with Novell, it will provide more platform options for its Linux users and provide more comprehensive support to customers. According to Mathias schadel, Vice President and General Manager of Dell's German Branch, Dell is doing this to provide better services to customers at the same press conference.

According to Chris ingle, an IDC analyst, from the perspective of Novell, it is also very important to sign this agreement with Dell because the sales volume of Dell servers is huge.

Previously, Novell had signed agreements with companies such as IBM and HP to support SuSE Linux on their servers and PCs.

As part of the agreement, Dell has begun to pre-install Redhat's market-leading RedHat Linux.
