Take advantage of NTFS permissions

Friends who used to use WINDWOS95 and WINDOWS98 all know that if you are multiple people using a computer, others can easily view your files, different users of the same file to use the same, can be said that there is no security! So have you ever thought that without the use of Third-party software, you could grant different access rights to different users to improve the security of each user's files? Tell you that in Windows 2000 and the most recently released Widnwosxp, you can easily solve the problem with its own NTFS file system.

A, how to take advantage of NTFS permissions

We first browse to the "PC any My Line" folder under E Disk, right-click to select Properties, and select the Security tab in the Properties dialog box that appears, as shown in Figure 1, and we can see that the system has granted full control to the Everyone group. This is because when you format a partition with NTFS in Windows XP, the Everyone group is automatically granted full control by the system, and all files and folders created under that partition inherit this fully-controlled permission.

This time, if do not make any change, is equivalent to us in WINDOWS98 fat format, basically have no security to say! If we see that the list of permissions below is grayed out, you cannot modify its permissions, which means that the folder is the right to continue to the folder on the previous level. If you want to modify the permissions that have been inherited, you can see a "advanced" button under figure one that allows you to view the Advanced Security Settings dialog for the folder, and there is a "inherit from the parent the permission entries that can be applied to child objects, including those explicitly defined here," from the file's Advanced Security Settings dialog box. check box, which is used to set the inheritance of the permission, we cancel the check box selection, this time will pop up a dialog box, (as shown in Figure 2), if we choose to copy, then the folder will retain the parent folder has inherited permissions, but will not inherit the permissions of the parent folder later, if you choose to delete, All permissions that inherit from the parent folder will be removed. Only the permissions that the user has set for the folder are reserved, because we do not have additional permissions for the folder here, so we'll select replication here and then click on the Security Properties dialog box that goes back to the PC as my line, and this time we can change the permissions for the Everyone group, Set its permission to read!
