Go to the plugins subdirectory under the Firefox installation directory
Cd/plugins

In the current directory, create a symbolic link pointing to the JRE ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so file, and type:

Ln-s/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Example:
Cd/usr/local/bin/firefox/plugins/
Ln-s/usr/java/jre1.6.0 _ 07/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

In the preceding command line, if Firefox uses gcc2.9 for compilation
Ln-s/usr/java/jre1.6.0 _ 07/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so

If you install Firefox 1.5 or later, you can enable the "Java console" menu item in the "Tools" menu.

Start the Firefox browser. If the Firefox browser is enabled, restart it. In the address bar of Firefox, type "about: plugins" to check whether Java Plugin has been loaded. If it is Firefox 1.5 or later, click the Tools menu to check whether the Java console exists.

Mozilla 1.4 and later

Go to the plugins subdirectory under the Mozilla installation directory
Cd/plugins

In the current directory, create a symbolic link pointing to the JRE ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so file, and type:

Ln-s/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Example:
Cd/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
Ln-s/usr/java/jre1.6.0 _ 07/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Start the Mozilla Browser. If the Mozilla Browser is running, restart it. Note that if other Mozilla components (such as Messenger and Composer) are running, restart them.

Go to Edit> preferred settings. Under the advanced category, select enable Java.
