Have you ever seen the earliest version of MATLAB? Download a MATLAB 1.0 (only 182 K, only 20 functions. In the early stage of Matlab, the representation matrix was used <> rather than []. Today's MATLAB has developed into a giant, but its thoughts and genes are inherited along the way.

Bytes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the middle of 1970s, Dr. Cleve Moler and his colleagues developed a FORTRAN sub-library called eispack and linpack with support from the National Science Foundation of the United States. eispack is the foetran library for solving feature values, and linpack is the library for solving linear equations. at that time, these two libraries represented the highest level of matrix operations.

By the end of 1970s, Cleve Moler, Head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of New Mexico, wanted to teach students linear algebra courses to use the eispack and linpack libraries, however, he found it very time-consuming for students to write interface programs in FORTRAN, so he started to write the eispack and linpack interface programs for students in his spare time. cleve Moler named MATLAB for this interface program, a combination of the first three letters of the English words matrix and labotatory. in the next few years, Matlab will be used as a teaching aid software in many universities and widely spread as a free software for the public.

In the spring of 1983, Cleve Moler gave lectures at Standford University. MATLAB attracted John Little, an engineer. john Little is keenly aware of the broad prospects of MATLAB in the engineering field. in the same year, he and Cleve Moler and Steve bangert developed the second-generation Professional Edition in C language. this generation of MATLAB language provides both numerical computation and data graphical functions.

In 1984, Cleve Moler and John Little set up math works to bring MATLAB to the market and continue the research and development of MATLAB.

In today's more than 30 mathematical science and technology applications, the original kernel of software mathematical processing can be divided into two categories. one type is numerical computing software, such as MATLAB, xmath, and Gauss. This type of software is longer than numerical computing, which is efficient in processing a large number of data. The other type is mathematical analysis software, Mathematica, maple, etc, this type of software is known for symbolic computing and can provide resolution solutions and any precise solutions. Its disadvantage is that it has a low aging rate for processing large amounts of data. mathworks conforms to the trend of multi-functional requirements. Based on its excellent numerical computing and graphical capabilities, it is the first to develop its symbolic computing and text processing capabilities at a professional level, visual Modeling and real-time control capabilities, developed a new generation of technology application software MATLAB suitable for multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral requirements. after years of international competition, MATLAB has dominated the numerical software market.

Before MATLAB entered the market, many international software packages were directly developed in programming languages such as fortranc. The disadvantage of this kind of software is that it is difficult to adapt to the latest development of various disciplines because of its narrow application area, simple interface, non-open program structure, and no standard base library. The emergence of MATLAB provides a new foundation for scientists in various countries to develop discipline software. Some software packages in the control field were phased out or reconstructed on Matlab in the mid 1980s S, shortly after the advent of Matlab.
