In addition to having Dreamweaver automatically update links whenever a file is moved or renamed, you can also manually change all links (including e-mail links, FTP links, empty links, and script links) to point to other locations. You can use this option at any time (for example, you may have linked the word "movie this month" to/movies/july.html throughout the site, and by August 1 You must change those links to point to/movies/august.html). However, this option is especially useful for deleting a file that other files are linked to. To change the link throughout the site, do the following:
1. Select a file in the local view of the files panel. Note: If you change an e-mail link, an FTP link, an empty link, or a script link, you do not need to select a file.
1. Select Site > Change entire site link, and the Change entire Site Link dialog box appears.
2. Complete the dialog box and click OK.
Dreamweaver updates all documents that are linked to the selected file, causes the documents to point to the new file, and follows the path format that the document has already used (for example, if the old path is a document relative path, the new path is also the document relative path). Whether the link type is a document relative link or a root relative link, Dreamweaver automatically updates the link. When a link is changed throughout the site, the selected file becomes a stand-alone file (that is, no files on the local hard disk point to the file). This file can safely be deleted without damaging any links in the local Dreamweaver site. Note: Because these changes are made locally, you must manually delete the corresponding stand-alone files in the remote folder, and then put or save all the files that have been changed by the link, otherwise, visitors to the site will not see the changes.
