EMC's new strategy: VMware Beyond Server virtualization

This also means that by aligning EMC's rich experience in storage and virtual environments, leveraging EMC's reputation in the data center and the fact that VMware is sufficiently independent, virtualization is an open standard for servers, cloud-type infrastructure private and public resource pools.

At the conference, Marize spent 1 hours explaining the company's high-level product plans and strategies on Wall Street and providing more details that were not mentioned at the VMworld European Conference held last month. But Marize also stressed that what VMware is trying to achieve is a long-term plan for the future of information technology, not just the idea of consolidating 2000 physical servers into 2000 VMS running on 300 or 400 servers, which is the consolidation standard VMware is currently implementing.

The upcoming sales focus this year will be the latest vsphere product line, which supersedes the current ESX server 3.5 hypervisor and related management tools for X64 servers, virtual Infrastructure 3, and hypervisor attachments. ESX and its stack are much more powerful than xenserver and Hyper-V hypervisor, and vsphere is a much broader extension.

"When I talk to users over the age of 45, I say we are creating software mainframes, 21st century mainframes," says Marize. Beyond virtual Servers

The four main components of the vsphere stack include Vcompute,vnetwork,,vstorage, the three virtualization features that are three components of modern computer systems, and the last part is the management tool for stack services vcenter Suite.

Marize says that VCenter Suite will enable management to move up, help administrators build software stacks, set service level objectives and protocols, and decide what happens when service levels are not met (such as adding more VMs to a cluster, shutting down other workloads, etc.).

The Vcenter interface is a simplified console, but if the administrator wants to recompile the code to set up the protocol or handle some tasks manually, they can do so via vcenter. But the whole point is for vcenter to assume the task of managing computers, storage, and network pools.

Vcompute is the location of the server Management program, as we mentioned earlier, the VIRTUALSMP capability of the future hypervisor will be twice times that of ESX server 3.5. As a result, a single virtual machine of Vcompute 4 can span 8 physical processor cores in one host.
