Select an item in the chart accurately

In the previous section, we selected the items in the chart, using the same method as clicking directly with the mouse. In fact, using the Chart toolbar, you can quickly and accurately select the corresponding items in the chart, the following examples are detailed.

1. Open the "Make personalized chart (original file)" Workbook file, go to the Select items in chart worksheet to see a chart that you've already created, and if the chart toolbar doesn't appear, select the menu view → toolbar → chart command to display it (Figure 1).

2. Click the drop-down arrow in the Chart object Drop-down list box on the left side of the toolbar, and the pop-up list shows the main items that make up the chart (Figure 2), and you can select the corresponding item in the chart by selecting the item in the Drop-down list.

3. Selecting items in a chart by this method is fast and accurate. If you think you use the mouse to click the method is not easy to choose, you can use this method, please remember that, regardless of the method, you can go through the upper left name box to see what the currently selected item is (Figure 3).

4. This explains why it is so important to choose the right chart item, and a careful friend can experience it: Selecting a different chart item, clicking the right mouse button, the pop-up menu commands are not the same.

5. For practice and testing, please select each chart item from the Chart object Drop-down list box on the Chart toolbar. Look at the changes in the chart and the changes in the Name box, and see where you move the mouse pointer to the selected item when you select a different chart item. Click the right mouse button to pop-up the menu for differences.

In the following operation, you can note that if you find that you did not achieve the goal of modifying the effect, most of them did not select the chart item.

Second, delete the chart grid line

1. After the above exercises and tests are complete, go to the "Modify items in Chart" worksheet and assume that our first modification goal is to delete the chart gridlines.

2. If the Chart toolbar is not displayed, open it with the method that you described earlier, click the Drop-down arrow in the Chart object Drop-down list box, select the main value axis gridlines in the pop-up list (Figure 4), and you can see that the grid lines in the chart are already selected.

3. Click the keyboard "delete" button to remove the grid line.

Third, modify the font of various titles

If you want to modify all the fonts on the chart at the same time, click the chart's border, select the chart area, and then modify the font type and size directly on the Formatting toolbar.

If you want to change a ladder font each time, such as changing the "chart title" Font to "bold", first select "chart title", and then modify it on the Formatting toolbar. Alternatively, select the chart title right mouse button and select the Chart Title Format command (Figure 5) In the pop-up menu, and modify it by opening the Chart Title Format dialog box (Figure 6).

Other headings and fonts are modified in the same way that you can refer to.

Iv. use of data labels

In the previous course we have introduced the use of data labels, here in review. Suppose our goal is to add data labels for each column, and then delete the value axis.

1. Right-click the blank chart area, and then select Chart Options on the shortcut menu. or select the chart area first, and then select the menu chart → chart Options command. Opens the Chart Options dialog box.

2. Go to the Data Labels tab and check the value checkbox to see the specific effect in the Preview box on the right (Figure 7).

Description: You can select the series name and category name check boxes to see the effects of the preview, and you can see that the check boxes are not appropriate to be selected at the same time, which makes the chart look messy.

3. When you click the OK button, return to the Excel editing window and you can see that the data labels are added above each column, in which case you can delete the value axis.

4. Select the value axis and press "delete" on the keyboard to remove the value axis (Figure 8). In addition, you can recall how the value axis is displayed and deleted through the Chart Options dialog box.

5. Adjust the font type of "data label" to "XXFarEastFont-Arial", size "10" and "bold", referring to the previous method of modifying the font.

Note: If you delete the value axis, then be sure to display the values of data labels, otherwise the chart numerical meaning is difficult to understand.

Modify the background color of the plot area

The following modification target is the background color of the plot area and is changed to a background with a gradient effect.

1. Select the plot area, right-click, select Plot area format from the pop-up menu, and open the Plot Area Format dialog box (Figure 9).

2. Click the Fill Effect button to open the Fill Effect dialog box, on the Gradient tab, in the Transform area, select the first gradient effect, and click OK (Figure 10).

3. Return to the Plot Area Format dialog box and, if you do not want the border of the plot area, select the None Radio box in the border area (Figure 11).

4. When you click the OK button, return to the Excel editing window and you can see that the background of the plot area changes to a gradient and looks more beautiful (Figure 12).

Six, modify the data series color

To make the overall effect of the chart consistent, we'll also change the color of the data series to have a gradient effect and remove the column border.

1. Select the series "Department One", click the right mouse button, select the "Data series format" command in the pop-up menu, and open the Data Series Format dialog box.

2. On the Pattern tab, to remove the column border, click the None Radio box in the border area, and then clicking the Fill Effect button opens the Fill Effect dialog box.

3. On the Gradient tab, the Shading style area selects the vertical Radio box, and then in the transform area, select the first gradient (Figure 13), and click the two OK button to return to the Excel editing window.

4. Modify the colors of the other two data series in the same way (Figure 14).

Seven, modify the legend

Below we modify the legend's border to purple and add a shadow effect.

1. Move the mouse over the border of the legend, click to select Legend, right-click, and select Legend format from the pop-up menu to open the Legend Format dialog box (Figure 15).

2. In the border area, select the Color Purple, and then tick the shadow check box, and click OK to return to the Excel editing window. You can see that the legend's border changes to purple and has a shaded effect (Figure 16). Original File Download
