Summary: Install VMware Tools into fedora 14 to share files (including drag and drop files) between Windows XP and Fedora 14 in virtual machines ).
I heard that fedora 9 was about a year ago. Some students had a friendlyarm development board. They wanted to play with it and gradually got in touch with some fedora 9 items when building the compiling environment.
Recently, I searched for fedora on the Internet, and all of them had reached version 14, which was just released in November. In addition, fedora 9 is no longer supported. Therefore, it applies to fedora 14, I feel very good. I just gave up fedora 9.
After fedora 14 is installed, the first problem is that you cannot log on to the root account. I thought the password was wrong, but I still couldn't do it after modification. It was impossible to log on to the root account since fedora 12. If you want to log on directly, you must make necessary modifications, for more information about the modification process, see the following link.

When installing yum, You must select Asia/Shanghai as the time zone. In this way, the installer automatically installs the update source suitable for mainland China, which will be convenient for future Yum installation. (My actual situation: the average download speed of Yum software installation is 200-300 K. In the past, when I installed fedora 9, the download speed was only a few Kb, which is probably caused by incorrect time zone selection)
During actual application, it is found that you cannot drag and drop files from windows to Fedora 14, nor copy the files in Fedora 14 (this is not the case in Fedora 9 ). I searched on the Internet and found that vmware tools had to be installed in Fedora 14, before installing the software, make sure that the kernel-devel, kernel-headers, and compiling environment have been installed (if not installed, you can use yum for installation ), make sure that the versions of kernel-devel and kernel-headers must be the same as those of the kernel. Otherwise, the installation will fail. (During installation, I encountered that the Kernel-devel and kernel-headers versions are later than the current kernel version, but cannot install the current kernel version of Kernel-devel and kernel-headers, you must first uninstall the later versions of kernel-devel and kernel-headers, and then install the current versions of kernel-devel and kernel-headers ).
The procedure is as follows:
1. Start Fedora 14 in the virtual machine;
2. Choose VM> install VMware Tools;
3. After Entering the Linux desktop, you will find a VMware Tools CD. Copy the vmwarw.ls-x-x.tar.gz file to a directory;
4. decompress the package to obtain the vmware-tools-distrib folder;
5. Go to the vmware-tools-distrib folder and enter./vmware-install.pl (execute installation instructions );
6. Always press enter until installation is complete.
7. Restart Fedora 14 to drag and drop and copy files between windows and Fedora.
Problems may occur during the installation process. You can refer to the following URL for modification:
Http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2010-11/30084.htm
During installation, I encountered the searching for a valid kernel header path... the path "" is not valid. the kernel version mentioned above is inconsistent with kernel-devel and kernel-headers. Install consistent kernel-devel and kernel-headers.
Commands used during installation:
View kernel version uname-R
View the kernel-devel (or kernel-headers) version: rpm-Q kernel-devel
Uninstall kernel-devel: rpm-e kernel-devel-xxx -- nodeps (nodeps is independent)
Install kernel-devel: Yum install kernel-devel-xxx
Note: The above operations are all under root.
