Find the missing LAN shared printer

Author: User

Recently, a friend found the author, said that his network printer connected to a local network installed in a Windows 2003 server, and from a local area network installed with Windows 98 client. You can ping a Windows 2003 server, but you cannot access a shared printer.

Fault Analysis: The author first checked the network connection, since the client can ping Windows 2003 server, indicating that there is no problem with network connectivity, and not access to the shared printer, I suspect it is most likely that the client does not have access to the server, because by default, Windows 2003 the Guest account in the server, is prohibited to use, the client in the local area network wants to access the printer in the server, must obtain the access permission. And to gain access, you must click start → control Panel → administrative tools → Computer Management in the Windows 2003 server, and then, in the open window, gradually open the system tools → Local Users and Groups folder, which will be selected for the "Users" item under the folder. Open the User Account List window.

Troubleshooting: Double-click the "Guest" option in the Account window, pop-up as shown in the account settings interface, in the default state, the "account has been deactivated" option is automatically selected, the author option "Cancel" to enable the Guest account; When you want to access a shared printer through a Windows 98 client, Must be logged into the Windows network with the "Guest" name before you can take advantage of a shared printer that is connected to a Windows 2003 server.

However, such modifications may also be problematic: once the Guest account in the server is enabled, any workstation in the LAN has the right to access the shared printer, which is obviously unsafe for Windows 2003 servers, and for this reason, the author will "guest" The account remains inactive, and then, in the Diagram window, create an account and set its access password; In the future, only users who know the password can access the shared printer on any workstation in the local area network, and those who do not know how to access the password will not be able to use the shared printer on either workstation, This ensures the security of shared access.
