Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 has an improved design environment, new layouts and design tools, templates, and improved themes that can help you achieve your Web site creativity without any HTML knowledge.
Improved working environment and larger design areas
FrontPage 2003 has all the Web design features and allows you to view the entire site in a panoramic perspective, making the site and web design easier than ever. Larger design areas also reduce scrolling operations.
Layout Tables and Cells
You can create a professional-looking Web page layout by using layout tables and cells. A layout table is a frame that is created for a Web page. A layout cell is an area within the frame that contains the contents of a Web page, including text, images, Web parts, and other elements. You can choose a predefined layout list, or you can draw it yourself, in short, to try a variety of layouts before making a final decision.
The Layout table tool is located in a task pane that you can easily access. You can use these tools to apply additional formatting, such as rounded corners, borders, auto scaling, and other visual effects.
Image tracing
When you use image tracing, you can create or trace a Web page design in FrontPage by creating a skin model image of the Web page in a graphics program and using it as a visual reference. You can show or hide an image, set it to opacity, and change its location.
Dynamic Web Templates
By attaching a dynamic Web Template to a Web page, you can quickly create an HTML page that shares the same layout. You can specify that certain areas within the template can be edited while other areas are protected. This means that you can allow others to add and edit content, but keep the layout and template of the page unchanged.
You can use any number of dynamic Web templates in your Web site, and you can add Dynamic Web templates to any number of pages. You can also save a dynamic Web template (. dwt) file to any location. If you choose to cancel a Dynamic Web Template from one or more pages in a Web site, the content is not deleted from those pages. Only the format provided by the template is deleted.
Web page ruler and layout grid
As long as there are good positioning references (such as the page ruler and the background layout grid), precise design and layout will become very easy. You can customize the ruler or grid by selecting measurement units, line styles and colors, and spacing options.
Design phase Layer
In FrontPage 2003, a layer can contain HTML elements, such as text and graphics. In the Layers task pane, you can view a detailed list of all the layers on a Web page. You can overlap, nest, and show or hide layers on a Web page. You can also animate a layer by using the Behaviors task pane, which enables you to add Dynamic HTML [DHML] scripts to any element in a Web page.
An improved theme
FrontPage 2003 uses cascading style sheets instead of HTML to apply themes, so files become smaller, more transparent, and easier to control and modify. In addition, if the Web page contains HTML themes that were applied in earlier versions, these settings will be retained in FrontPage 2003.
