According to foreign media reports, recently, Google's senior System Engineers showed that most of Google's databases have been migrated from MySQL to MariaDB, this was another time that MySQL was abandoned by heavyweight users after it was acquired by Oracle.

It is reported that at last week's Stanford University large-scale database conference, Google's senior system engineer JeremyCole revealed that Google's open source data center will be migrated from MySQL to MariaDB. Although the message was not officially published by Google, Cole said that to make MariaDB more effective, Google is committed to upgrading and repairing it to migrate tens of thousands of Google MySQL instances. According to the presentation, Cole said, "The MySQL5.1 version we are currently running is a little outdated, so we need to migrate it to MariaDB10.0 ".

In addition, SkySQL (the company name of MariaDB) said that at the beginning of this year, Google began to work with the MariaDB Foundation, and the migration will involve tens of thousands of MySQL servers, the two companies work together to develop MariaDB's reliability and features.

Because MySQL is controlled by Oracle, it seems closed and passive in data update, and the MySQL database community must be embedded into Oracle's open source database to obtain its technical support. To get rid of this constraint, heavyweight users such as Apple and Wikipedia have successively migrated data to another party, and this migration of another Internet giant, it is a big blow to the popular MySQL.

Currently, MariaDB has the following features:

1. FedoraProject: In February lunar January 2013, FedoraProject began to collect Users' intention to use MariaDB. In the summer of Fedora19, FedoraProject has replaced MariaDB to become the default software-dependent option.

2. SlackwareLinux: In March 23, 2013, SlackwareLinux, the oldest Linux release, also announced the use of MariaDB to replace MySQL, because the MariaDB community is more dynamic and more willing to cooperate with the open-source community.

3. ArchLinux: on July 15, March 25, 2013, ArchLinux issued an announcement that MariaDB should be used to replace MySQL, and the conversion was completed within one month. for multiple reasons, the update must be manually executed.

RedHat: on April 9, June 2013, RedHat announced that RHEL7 of the Enterprise Edition will replace MySQL with MariaDB. Earlier this year, the ora community release version of RedHat announced the switch from MySQL to MariaDB.
