According to Google, Android apps have downloaded 4.5 billion times, but sometimes the user experience in the Android Market is poor. In May 11, Google introduced new improvement measures to Android Market to highlight more applications and developers and direct consumers to relevant content.

This is indeed good news for developers trying to gain exposure on Android Market with 0.2 million applications. The number of apps in the Store is expected to exceed the Apple App Store by the end of this year. Therefore, Android Developers need more methods to get consumers' attention. Application ranking rules have changed. At least new applications have more opportunities to appear on the rankings, rather than those well-known popular applications. This is also good for consumers. They have more methods to find suitable applications. Currently, improvement measures have been implemented on the store's webpage version and will be applied to mobile phones soon.

This improvement includes the new free game, paid game, and fastest-growing ranking in the past 30 days. The list is updated more frequently, and data in more countries is monitored. Google also added the Editor's Choice list to rank professional recommendation products. This is similar to the Staff Picks list of the Apple App Store, but Google's list contains all categories of games. These two improvement measures aim to improve the Android Market experience and speed up its catch-up with App Store. Android also adds the Trending section to applications with rapid daily installation. This is helpful to app creators who want to get user attention through the success of early downloads, although other rankings ignore the practice of simply using downloads as a ranking factor.

Android Market

Android not only emphasizes some applications, but also highlights successful publishers. Top developers who have made high-quality applications can now add small icons next to their names (Note: nearly 150 developers have won this honor ). However, if the reward principles are not clearly defined, preference and subjectivity may occur. If there are too many developers to win the honor, these badges and icons will lose their original meaning. However, the author hopes that this idea allows consumers to easily identify top-level application developers.

Google also wants to make app recommendations more personalized. Now, when users decide to install an application, they will also get comments from others on the same application and view other applications that others want to install. At the developer conference, the Android operator shared a piece of information saying that the number of countries where developers can sell applications had increased to 131 (Note: there were only 32 countries in the past ). This is an urgent update, which means that developers can sell applications to more users and may be more inclined to make profits by paying for downloads instead of advertising and In-app purchases. In May, developers will be able to increase the application size from 2 GB to 4 GB. They can also upload optimized versions of applications on different hardware devices in the same list.

These are the ongoing projects of Android, and the company will make more efforts to improve the Android Market. Obviously, the platform is moving forward in an attempt to become a place where people search and download applications. It takes a lot of work to make users spend money to purchase applications and pay for applications. But it is too early to consider this. Google is taking the necessary steps to build a store that is becoming more attractive and useful.
