At the Google I/O 2016 conference, we announced the launch of the new Google Awareness API, which allows your app to take advantage of snapshot and fence intelligence to respond to user situations with minimal system resources.
All developers can get Google Awareness API via Google Play service.
With 7 different types of scenarios, including location, weather, user activity, and nearby beacons, your app can better understand the user's current situation and leverage this information to provide the best customized experience.
The awareness API provides two ways to use contextual signals in your application:
- The Snapshot API makes it easy for your app to request information about the user's current situation. For example, "Give me the user's current location and current weather status information."
- The Fence API allows your app to respond to changes in user situations and react when situations meet a specific set of conditions. For example, "Notify me whenever a user walks and inserts a headset." Similar to the geofencing API, once you register a sense fence, the sense fence can send callbacks to it even if your app is not running.
The awareness API's interface is single and concise, and its previously new ways of merging optimized situational signals provide more accurate and insightful situational cues, as well as managing system resources, saving battery power and minimizing bandwidth consumption.
Online Residential real Estate website Trulia Use our Fence API to recommend open house visits. When the weather is right, and the user is passing by the neighborhood they are interested in, Trulia will send a notice to remind the user to visit. This type of custom notification ensures that the user does not miss an open-house visit at the right time.
Superplayer Music, on the other hand, uses our Snapshot API and Fence API to recommend the best tunes for your mood. Whether you're just running the steps to start stretching, driving a long-distance trip, or just coming to the gym, music assistants can understand your situation and recommend the right playlist for your music.
