The following skills are essential for any Web Developer.
The technology for developing Web applications has become more mature and complex. Now, building a Web application requires not only simple HTML technology. Database access, scripting language, and management are all technologies required by Web programmers. Let's take a look at what skills are needed to become a popular Web developer on the market.
Since CERN (European Institute of particle physics), a high-energy physical research center near Geneva, launched Web in 1991, Web technology has been developed from static content and Common Gateway Interface (CGI) it has evolved into servlet technology and JavaServer Pages. However, in a more competitive society, a Web programmer needs more knowledge. For example, if you mentioned that you are familiar with XML and have some experience in JNDI during the interview (these two technologies seem to be not closely related to Web programming at the beginning ), then you will leave a deeper impression on your future boss. Imagine that you have already understood the Java programming language and object-oriented programming. The following two groups of technologies are required by Web developers in their daily work. The first group includes the technologies that every Web programmer must possess. The second group includes the technologies that should be mastered by a senior programmer.
Basic skills
If you want to call yourself a Web developer, the following technologies are required.
HTML (HyperText Markup Language)
HTML is almost the language in which all content is displayed on the browser. No wonder HTML is like the survival instinct of a Web programmer. If you still need to search for <tr> or <B> in your HTML, you really need to improve your HTML technology. The current version of HTML is 4.01. You can learn more about the internal content of HTML from http://www.w3.org/tr/%/rec-html401-%1224.
Servlets and JSP
Java servlet is the main technology used to develop Java Web applications. It was developed by Sun Microsystems in 1996. The current version is 2.3, but people are preparing for version 2.4.
JSP is an extension of servlet technology. The current version is 1.2 (version 2.0 will be finalized soon ). Some people think that JSP is an alternative to servlets, but this is not the case. Servlets and JSP are used together for complex Web applications.
A good start for Web programming using Java is learning servlet technology. Even if you plan to use only JSP pages in your Web application, you still need to learn servlet technology. In more complex Web applications, JSP pages are only used for display, while JavaBeans and custom tag libraries are used to embed business logic. That is, you must be proficient in JavaBeans and custom tag libraries.
JavaScript
JavaScript is the script language running in all major browsers. You use JavaScript to program the client. The most important task in client programming is to confirm user input. The advantage of using client input verification is to reduce the workload of the server and increase the response time. In addition, JavaScript can be used for redirection, cookie processing, controlling applets, creating a navigation tree, opening a new instance of a browser, and so on.
