Today's computers support the IDE Auto detect feature, which automatically detects the type of hard disk. If the type of the hard disk displays an error, the system will sometimes fail to start. Even if it can be started, there will be errors in reading and writing. For example, the CMOS hard disk capacity is less than the actual hard disk capacity, the sector behind the hard disk will not read/write, if it is a multiple-partition state, then individual partitions will be lost.

There is also a very important cause of failure. Because the IDE supports logical parameter types, the hard disk can be normal, LBA, large, etc., if the system installed in the general mode, and in the CMOS to other modes, this failure will occur, because its mapping relationship has changed, will not be able to read the original correct hard disk location.
