Running Smartctl (smartmontools) on Hpproliant g6/g7 (px1x) Smart Array controllers that has firmware version 5.70to 6.62 Installed with SATA drives attached could result in system notresponding or reboot. Wehn reboot occurred, a reboot 1719 POST errormessage with lockup 0x15 displayed.

Operation Steps:

Update the firmware on the target server running the VMware ESXi operating system:

• Enabling the ESXi host technical support mode

• Log on as the root user. (Must be root user to apply update)

• Storing the smart component zip file in a temporary directory

• Unzip the Cpxxxxxx.zip file

• Make sure you can execute cpxxxxxx.vmexe with commands

chmod +xcpxxxxxx.vmexe

• The Smart Component is executed under this directory. For example:./cpxxxxxx.vmexe

• Follow the instructions provided by the Smart component

• Exit

• Disabling the "Technical support mode" for ESXi hosts

• For the firmware update to take effect, restart the system if necessary
