Print Server question description

Configured based on Novell 3.xand 4. after the HP Jetdirect printing server of x or NetWare 5, HP Jetdirect prints the Novell or IPX/SPX status on the server configuration page as "2B nds err Unable to Log in", "Password Error", or "Unable to Change Password ".

Solution: Use NW Admin or PConsole to clear the print server password. In NW Admin, disable intruder detection and clear the password of the printed Server Object. If the error persists, delete the print server, printer, print queue, and other objects, and recreate the objects with a new name. Then, reconfigure the HP Jetdirect printing server in HP Web Jetadmin.

Ensure that the latest Novell Client software is available from the Novell website) and the latest HP Jetdirect printing server firmware.

Use NWAdmin

1. If possible, shut down the printer or external printing server.

2. Open NetWare Administrator.

3. Select the organizational unit where the printed server object is created.

4. Right-click the organizational unit and select "Details ".

5. scroll to the bottom of the list and select "Intruder Detection.

6. Clear the "Detect Intruders" check box and select "OK ".

7. Select the Print Server Object and right-click it. Then, select "Details ".

8. Select "Change Password ". Enter "Enter new Password" and press Enter. A warning box is displayed, showing "You entered a blank password ". Select "Yes ".

9. In the "Details" window, select "OK ".

10. Turn on or re-switch the printer/external print server power. Select "Diagnostics" in HP Web Jetadmin to verify that the HP Jetdirect printing server is connected to the file server.

11. You can now enable "Intruder Detection ".

Use PConsole

1. Run PConsole. Select Print Server Information and Press enter.

2. Select the correct printing server and press Enter.

3. In the "Print Server Information" menu, select "Change Password ". Press enter.

4. Press enter. Do not Enter any information in the "Enter New Password" input line.

5. Press enter. Do not type any information in the Retype New Password field.

6. log out of PConsole.

7. Switch the power of the printer or external HP Jetdirect device again.

Print Server question Summary

The HP Jetdirect print server cannot log on to the print server object. This is often caused by the intrusion detection setting of the organization unit in NDS or the password setting of the server object. For some reason, sometimes HP Jetdirect devices and Novell Print Server objects cannot negotiate passwords correctly between them.
