IAAs Middleware
Previously, we also introduced HPC middleware and grid middleware, which are mainly used to integrate computing resources and achieve "multi-host virtualization". According to the NIST cloud computing architecture, these are distributed network middleware at the bottom layer of cloud computing, that is, IAAs middleware. IAAs middleware has a high degree of universality. It is called middleware because universality and reusability are one of its important features. Otherwise, it can only be regarded as application software.
The IAAs layer of the cloud computing SPI architecture relies on The IAAs middleware.
} HPC-based systems: deisa and teragrid.
} Cluster/cluster-based systems: EGEE, nordugrid, see-grid, and OSG.
} Desktop PC-based grid systems: bonic, xtremweb, etc.
} Cloud computing systems: eucalyptus, opennebula, and Amazon AWS.
Eucalyptus and opennebula are also developed based on the basis and ideas of grid computing. All grid-based or HPC IAAs systems can be regarded as "bottom-up" and developed into cloud computing systems, IAAs systems represented by Amazon AWS, including some later commercial systems, such as joyent, can be developed from top to bottom based on business needs without the idea of grid. However, since these systems do not disclose internal architectures, it is hard to understand their underlying technologies and whether grid middleware technology and code are used.
The IAAs Middleware Based on Grid Technology and concepts has already been introduced in this book. It mainly refers to parallel virtual machine systems that support heterogeneous (heterogeneous) multi-machine systems (however, in a commercial cloud computing system, resources generally use hypervisor virtualization technology, such as xen and KVM, to convert computing resources to homogeneous nodes for unified management. For example, PVM/MPI, resource and workload management system (distributed resource schedted), such as Condor, SGE, and PBS. Non-grid IAAs middleware, such as Amazon AWS, also provides interfaces and operation support for the aforementioned MPI, Condor, PBS and other middleware, as shown in 9-3.
