Install fedora 16 on WINXP Hard Disk

 

A few days ago, a Linux system needs to be installed because of my hobbies and work needs. I chose fedora 16 (don't ask me why, just feel it ). I think it is not difficult to install a Linux system on a hard disk. I have installed a Linux system before. the following is a summary of some problems that may occur during the personal installation process:

1. Download a grub4dos, decompress it to the C root directory, and copy the grldr to the c root directory. Official Site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/Grub4dos/

2. Add the following line in c: \ Boot. ini (remove the read-only attribute of the file before changing ).
C: \ grldr = "Install fedora"

3. Download fedora 16 (I chose a 32-bit version), file name: Fedora-16-i386-DVD.iso, official website:

Http://fedoraproject.org

4. Copy the Fedora-16-i386-DVD.iso to the root directory of the FAT32 partition you created (it cannot be an NTFS partition, otherwise it cannot be recognized)

5. Use the virtual optical drive tool or WinRAR to open the Fedora-16-i386-DVD.iso, decompress the vmlinuz, initrd. IMG and images directories under isolinux to the c root directory

Note: If you copy these files to the FAT32 partition where the Fedora-16-i386-DVD.iso is stored, you may not be able to find the corresponding partition under grub.

6. Create a menu. LST file under the C-drive root directory. The content is as follows:

Title install Fedora

Kernel (hd0, 5)/vmlinuz Linux askmethod

Initrd (hd0, 5)/initrd. img

Note:
1. (hd0, 5) There must be no space behind the comma. Here, you need to enter (hd0, 0) according to the location of your FAT32 partition, which represents the 1st partition of the first hard disk, generally for Windows users, it is a C drive.
2. Remember to add the Linux askmethod. This is very important. Otherwise, you will not be prompted to select the installation media during the installation process and directly use the network for installation.

7. You can install it as prompted. There are two points to note.

1. Because dual-system is installed, you must use the "Custom Partition Scheme" when selecting a partition scheme"

2. Pilot write location. If you want to use fedora to guide WINXP, this can be ignored. Otherwise, select the installation guide in the corresponding location.
