Like the former Fedora12, Fedora13 enables the KMS module of Nouveau by default. Although Gallium3D supports complete 3D acceleration, but there must be some friends who want to pursue performance and use HD video acceleration who need Nvidia's binary driver. This article uses the binary driver of nvidia packaged with rpmfusion as an example. to install the version provided by Nvidia official site, see Fedora12
Like the previous Fedora 12, Fedora 13 has enabled the KMS module of Nouveau by default. Although Gallium3D can be used to provide complete 3D acceleration support, but there must be some friends who want to pursue performance and use HD video acceleration who need Nvidia's binary driver.
This article uses the binary driver of nvidia packaged with rpmfusion as an example. to install the version provided by Nvidia official site, please refer to the article of Fedora 12 and modify it accordingly.
1. Add the rpmfusion Repository:
Su-c 'rpm-Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-rawhide.noarch.rpm license'
2. Use yum to install the driver:
Su-c 'yum -- nogpgcheck install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia akmod-nvidia'
3. Shielding the nouveau module in initrd:
Su-c 'sed-I '/root =/s | $ | rdblacklist = nouveau |'/etc/grub. conf'
4. Edit the xorg. conf file:
Su-c 'gedit/etc/X11/xorg. conf'
Add the following fields:
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "IgnoreABI" "true"
EndSection
5. Set SELinux to allow execution:
Su-c 'setsebool-P allow_execstack on'
6. Restart
Very necessary!
