Intel: the Key to defending against cyberattacks is "golden hour" and Intel hour
According to a new report, when enterprises suffer a network attack, they will find and respond to the attack within an hour.

In a report released on Monday morning, Intel, the microchip giant, claims that "golden hour" is the most critical period for enterprises to avoid major losses in the face of network attacks. However, attacked enterprises often do not realize that they are in danger or fail to take rapid actions to block hacker attacks.

"Golden hour" was originally a medical line, used to indicate the window period in which traumatic patients are most likely to survive.

Chris Yang, general manager of Intel security, pointed out: "speed is very important. In the event of an attack, there was a golden hour to respond, which was counted from the detection of signs of attacks. Manual data analysis slows down the response speed during this critical period ."

Many well-known companies suffered severe cyber attacks last year. Computer systems of enterprises such as Sony, Anthem, and Kmart have been hacked and stolen from internal files or sensitive customer information.

Intel's report is mainly based on a survey of 700 IT and network security personnel from large enterprises around the world. The report mainly explains why there are so many serious information leaks in the business world, and why these companies have not successfully discovered and responded.

Respondents said that in the past year alone, their company conducted an average of 78 security surveys, which fully demonstrated the severity of hacker problems. Among them, 28% of the investigations are centered on targeted attacks, because they are not only more complex, but also initiated for a specific target or to steal specific types of information, for example, data of classified employees or customers. Generally, most targeted attacks are related to malware, that is, users' PCs may be infected with viruses or spyware.

Last year, enterprises with more than 5000 employees suffered an average of 150 cyber attacks, while enterprises with 1000 to 4999 employees suffered an average of 41 cyber attacks. On average, small enterprises with 500 to 999 employees suffered only 31 cyberattacks.

In some cases, an enterprise fails to detect a network attack because different network security tools used by the enterprise have vulnerabilities. Different departments of an enterprise often use different security tools, which makes it difficult to determine the occurrence of network attacks in real time because sometimes the collected data cannot be shared.

Chris Yang said that in view of the frequent occurrence of network attacks, the board of directors of major enterprises has recognized the importance of network defense. Many corporate executives have learned from the news media about network attacks by other companies and have paid more attention to network security.

Chris Yang said: "the network security problem has moved from the data center to the board of directors, which is a good thing for the industry. More and more companies are paying more attention and budget for network security and protection ."
