Microsoft released the IE 8 browser software on Thursday, March 19. However, Internet Explorer users are not actively using this software.
According to Global statistics from the website communication traffic monitoring company StatCounter, as of one o'clock P.M. on Friday, the US east time, IE 8 accounted for only 1.56% of the global Internet communication traffic, a slight increase from 1.39% on Thursday.
In a statement, StatCounter founder and CEO Aodhan Cullen said, "I guess the user's public release of IE 8 is disappointing. He compared the first public release of IE 8 and the first release of Firefox 3 in last June. Firefox 3's communication traffic accounted for 7.8% of the total Internet communication traffic in the beta version. Three days after the public release, Firefox 3 browser communication traffic accounted for 18.9% of Internet communication traffic.
IE 8's reaction from testers and early users is mixed. There are some reports that the IE 8 browser may cause a system crash or cannot properly display some websites. During the "Acid Test 3" Test of the Web Standard Program, IE 8 is still incompatible with some website standards, such as CSS, HTML4, and XHTML.
Microsoft is counting on IE 8 to restore its browser market share. The market share of Microsoft's IE browser has been losing to competitors, such as Apple's Safari, Google's Chrome, and Firefox with open-source software.
