According to foreign media reports, the American Internet number Registration Management Center (ARIN) recently called on the industry to transition to IPv6 as soon as possible because Internet IP addresses are about to run out.
Currently, IPv4 has 4.3 billion IP addresses, but currently only 19% are available. By 2012 or 2013, all the remaining 19% will be allocated.
In this regard, the ARIN Council President John Curran recently said: "We must prepare for IPv4 depletion and transition to IPv6 as soon as possible ." IPv4 uses a 32-bit address with only about 4.3 billion addresses. IPv6 uses a 128-bit address length, which can be provided almost unrestricted.
Stephen Ryan, ARIN consultant, and Raymond Plzak, CEO and President, said: "If no action is taken now, a technical crisis is approaching. Of course, this crisis is not as complicated as the millennium worm, but the key is that it does not have a specific outbreak date and the public awareness is not high ."
Deploy IPv6. Most devices need to be upgraded or replaced. IT administrators need to be trained and test the network. As a result, according to the prediction of the Research Institute, the above cost will be as high as $25 billion in the next 25 years.
