Kubernetes Note 01 A pioneer in the new era of Kubernetes

Kubernetes The name originated in ancient Greece, is the meaning of "helmsman", so its Logo is like a fishing net, but also like a compass. If Docker is positioning itself as a whale carrying a container on the sea, then Kubernetes is the helmsman who steers the voice of the great sailing age, directing the whale to follow the route set by the host.

Kubernetes born out of the old Google Cluster management software "borg", although since the birth of more than three years (the first official version of the Kubernetes 1.0 was officially released in July 2015), but to discuss its history, but is already in the Google internal battle-hardened 10 Grieving, Kubernetes standing on the shoulders of the predecessor of Borg, learned from its past ten years of experience and lessons, only today's results. This is also the reason that Google can't wait to push Kubernetes after the Docker fire.

Kubernetes is also often called "k8s", because between K and S there is exactly 8 letters, and the pronunciation is similar to 8, for easy reading, people are happy to call it that.

With the endorsement of Google, K8s once launched on the blockbuster, quickly dominate the container technology field.

It can be said that K8s is a new distributed architecture of cloud computing era based on container technology, its architecture design is open, in addition to support Docker, but also support other container technology, such as Rocket, RKT and so on.

Google's add-on, an open ecosystem, gives it the upper hand in the game with other competitors and easily takes the container to orchestrate the market.

In September 2017, Mesosphere announced support for K8s, and then, in October, Docker announced the embrace of k8s at the Dockercon EU 2017 conference, where k8s formally seized on container technology and thoroughly controlled the future of container technology.

K8s to expand its reach, it was not long before it joined the OpenStack camp in the hope that k8s could be accommodated by the OpenStack ecosystem and become a top citizen on the OpenStack platform like a KVM virtual machine.

This means that container-represented application patterns and virtual machine-represented system patterns are seamlessly integrated into OpenStack and dominate next-generation data centers along with software-defined networking and software-defined storage.

K8s has a strong wind in cloud computing, and no cloud-related company can ignore its existence, miss it, or miss out on the future. Let's take a look at the Google trends it's been in since its inception (compared to Docker Swarm and Mesos):

It can be seen that the k8s from the beginning of the rise of the road, the opponent off the more than 10 street, the future will be the speed of the rocket to stay up.

At present, in addition to cloud-related companies, many internet companies, and even traditional enterprises are in the layout of their own k8s products, it can be said that K8s is currently the most popular container industry star.

As an IT practitioner, you can't ignore its existence. Who can take a step ahead of others to master the new technology, who will be able to win the opportunity in the competition.

Although it is not the best time to learn k8s, it is not too late, as the saying goes:

The best time to learn a technology is 10 years ago, followed by now.
