If we have users who are using or who have been familiar with Linode VPS hosts, we are sure that the memory configuration will be upgraded for free during the 13th anniversary event. From the configuration perspective, it is advantageous for our users, in addition, according to the trend of the entire host industry, many VPS server merchants may also improve the configuration in the second half of the year, which is a good improvement for our user choice in price/performance ratio.
For example, we used to choose Linode 2 GB memory configuration with a monthly fee of 20 US dollars, so we can downgrade it. The original 1 GB memory can be upgraded to 2 GB, and only 10 US dollars is required, because our original 2 GB solution configuration can now be upgraded to a 4 GB memory solution, it may be a waste. For smooth data migration, we can activate a low-level configuration scheme, and then clone the data and retain the IP address for migration, so that the original memory configuration can be maintained, however, the cost is half of the original cost.
Similarly, we found that if the VPS of the Japanese data center cannot be upgraded to a new configuration, but we can open a new configuration (check whether the old account is lucky enough, then, you can use the new price scheme by migrating data and retaining IP addresses. In this article, laozuo.org will use the powerful panel function of Linode to migrate data and retain the original IP address.
1. Preparations
1. We need to create a new machine in the same data center and operating system. For example, if our old machine is configured with 2 GB memory (which requires a $20 monthly fee and can also be upgraded to 4 GB memory), if we do not have much requirement on hard disk and bandwidth, we only need to create a new one with a monthly fee of 10 USD 2 GB memory configuration.
2. For the sake of security, it is recommended that netizens who have not used the clone function back up website data locally. In case of an accident, it will be troublesome. If we often use it before, we will be familiar with it. We don't need to look at this tutorial.
3. In order to differentiate the two servers in the following article, I will distinguish them from existing website server A and new server B. Both servers must be shut down before they can be operated.
2. Clear the disk of the new server
Because we need to migrate to server B, we need to delete the disk of server B first. We need to first shut down server B, then click Remove as shown in the figure above, and wait until the deletion is completed.
3. Clone the website environment and data
Go to server A and see the figure above to clone the data.
Here we can see that the clone time will be estimated based on the data size, and then select the target server B to be cloned. If there are multiple machines in the same data center, we should be careful not to choose the wrong one.
PS: Remember that data migration between different data centers is also supported, but IP addresses cannot be retained outside the data center.
4. Adjust disk restart
After the data migration is complete, we can see two systems in server B, one existing and the other new. If we have the same settings in our system, we can't tell you clearly. Here is a tip. In theory, the first system should be deleted, but what should I do if I make a mistake? So let's try restarting. The first restart will usually fail, and the second one will be restarted successfully. Yes, so the first one is deleted.
Fifth, switch to retain the original IP address
We need to migrate the IP address of server A to server B. As shown in the figure above, click IP Swap in the configuration file of server.
Then select the server to which the IP address is migrated.
Select do it and migrate the IP address.
Here, we check the new server B to see if the IP address is pinged and whether the website is opened normally. If everything is correct, we can delete server A. If not, then we continue to switch the IP address and continue to use server. It is critical that server A be deleted without being numb.
