Microsoft recently clarified a key issue around Office Web, that is, users running Mac OS X and Linux operating systems, and iPhone users can access Office Web services.
A blogger named Sarah Perez elaborated on the system requirements for access to the Office Web in the Microsoft Channel 10 blog. According to peliz, not only Windows and IE users can access the Office Web, but also users running Firefox and Safari on Mac OS X and Linux can access the Office Web.
Firefox supports Mac OS x, Linux, and Windows, while Safari supports Mac OS X and Windows. Net Applications, a market research firm, said earlier this month that Firefox and Safari had a total market share of October in 26%, and IE had a market share of 71%.
Microsoft announced last month that it would support Firefox and Safari, but did not indicate whether it supports non-Windows platforms.
Perezes said Apple iPhone users will also be able to access the Office Web. The iPhone contains a lite version of Safari.
Office Web will be the first product launched by Microsoft to run on Linux. Microsoft did not specify the date of release of the Office Web, nor did it disclose whether it was free to users or its pricing strategy.
Microsoft plans to start a technical test of Office Web later this year.
