The Active Directory database includes database file Ntds.dit and log files. For best performance, it is recommended that log files and database files be in a separate hard drive or raid in a production environment, and that there is sufficient space left on the disk, depending on the size of the network. Because the Active Directory database is a self-sustaining system, it generally does not require routine maintenance (in addition to backup). However, there are times when the following conditions may be managed:

Low disk space, current hardware failure, and physical space to be restored after a large number of global edits are removed or removed.

The management of the Active Directory database includes movement, compression (defragmentation), and so on.

In this experiment, an environment that is deployed as one of the Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory is the operating environment.

Experiment Request:

Compress the Active Directory database to move the Active Directory database to C:ntds

Experiment steps:

1, System backup. To prevent the experiment from failing, it is strongly recommended to back up the system before the Experiment (abbreviated)

2, view the Active Directory database related information (pictured below)

3. Stop the Active Directory service (you can services.msc at the Service Management console or run net stop NTDS at the command line state)

4, enter Ntdsutil carriage return. Then type activate instance NTDS, and the Files command, in turn.

To be used by the command help. You can use the logical integrity of the integrity database, and so on

5, input Compact to C:, compressed Active Directory database, will compress the file in C:. After the compression is complete, copy the C:ntds.dit file to the original folder and delete the *.log log file for the folder.

The following is a move operation

6. Type move db to C:ntds. This command completes copying the database files to C:ntds. The system automatically detects if this folder exists (automatically creates this folder if it does not exist), and automatically sets the security of the folder after the computer restarts.

7, type move logs to c:ntds the log file.

8, press two times quit exit ntdsutil command.

9, restart the computer. View the relevant logs and C:ntds information (security, files) through Event Viewer to see if the system is working properly.
